TV Shows for Law Students

Image
Of course, there's a lot of studying in law school, but sometimes you need a bit of a break. If you're looking for something new to binge watch but want to avoid the guilt of straying too far from anything law-related, check out some of my favorite law shows to watch. How to Get Away with Murder If you like drama and a badass female lawyer, check out How to Get Away with Murder . Although I'm sure my 1L year won't be as exciting as the students in this show, it's still worth the watch. I've only just began watching this show, but I'm already hooked.  The People v. OJ Simpson Not going to lie--I watched this all over the course of two afternoons. Oops. The entire cast is fantastic and it's awesome to see this story unfold with them. While growing up, I only knew of the basics of the OJ case, so it was interesting to learn about all the details.  The Staircase This Netflix original caught my attention because of its loo

Shake Up Your Study Routine

Image
It's easy to get stuck in a rut with studying; you force yourself into it, drag it out for a few hours, and then finally stop and move on with your day. Keeping yourself motivated while studying can be hard, but all you need is a little creativity and some time. All of the tips I've included below are ones I've tried out--after spending hours sitting in the main library on campus, I needed something new to keep me from pulling my hair out in boredom and frustration. Move Around Like I wrote above, I spent a lot of time in the main library study for the majority of my undergrad career. However, once I started studying for the LSAT and working on my Writing Certificate capstone project (still proud of myself for all those pages I wrote and edited to death), I moved to a cafe in the downtown area of my college town. It was great to take my headphones out and just listen to the low rumble of people talking and the quiet sounds coming from the speakers placed througho

Revamp Your Morning Coffee

Image
It's easy to fall into a routine each morning, especially when it comes to your breakfast or your caffeine fix. If you're looking to shake things up and make your mornings more exciting, take a look through these four recipes! Coffee Smoothie Via A Sweet Pea Chef This is so easy to make, and, in addition to your daily dose of caffeine, it'll provide you with some fruit and vitamins to get your day started. I'm definitely guilty of solely drinking some coffee and calling it breakfast, which is definitely not healthy in any way, so subbing in a smoothie can help me (and maybe some of you) not skip breakfast. Cinnamon Coffee Creamer Via Cupcakes & Cutlery Whenever I make coffee at home with my Keurig, I use unflavored creamer and rely on the flavor of my coffee for that little kick of yum. If anything, I'll use a hazelnut coffee creamer if that's what we have in the fridge. Cinnamon at breakfast reminds me of eating cinnamon toast in the morn

The Happy Planner Review

Image
I've always been somebody who loves planners and staying organized. There's just something about having your entire day, week, and month laid out for me that makes me feel happy and content. Maybe I'm just a huge nerd, but, hey, what are you gonna do? While perusing Joann Fabrics one day while out shopping with my mom, I came across a little stand that was covered in stickers, cute planners, and planner inserts. On a whim, I bought a few packs of stickers and a brand new planner. This little stand is what introduced me to The Happy Planner. I decided that The Happy Planner would be the planner I'd use for 2019, and, now that I've been using it for a few months, I thought now is the time to talk about my opinions on this planner. Related: My Planner Setup I love how customizable it is; with the stickers, you can make each week whatever you need it to be. Whether I need some inspirational quotes to get me through a tough week or need space to write out a mi

Let's Talk: Spring Cleaning

Image
Spring cleaning can mean a lot of things. You can clean out your closet, dust your room, open the windows, and get your home smelling like lemons and fresh flowers. But, you can also spring clean other aspects of your life: digitally, emotionally, physically, and more. I think it's important to take a step back and look at your life from a bird's eye view; after all, it's easy to feel trapped when you're in the middle of everything. Take a moment to grab a notebook and a pen, and get ready to declutter! Your Goals Remember those resolutions you made way back in January? In the chaos of life, it's easy to let those fall to the back burner, and now's the time to look at those again. It's not a moment to hate on yourself for forgetting about them or not focusing on them for the past few months, but it's the time to reevaluate and see what your goals should become now. You can add new goals, get rid of ones that aren't relevant anymore, and modi

15 Meal Prep Ideas for Busy Students

Image
One thing I've always wanted to be better at is meal prepping so I eat out less and stay with a healthy diet. My meal prep board on Pinterest is filled with plenty of options, so I figured it was time to actually get down to business and figure this whole thing out. If you're looking for even more inspiration, make sure to give the websites I link below some love! Breakfast Caramel Macchiato Overnight Oats Via Desserts with Benefits I'm a sucker for an iced caramel macchiato from Starbucks when I want to treat myself, but I definitely can't convince myself that there's anything super healthy for me in there. While perusing the web for meal prep inspiration, I came across these yummy-looking overnight oats themed around my favorite coffee beverage. Chia, Acai, and Strawberry Layered Breakfast Jar Via The Awesome Green If anything involves a ton of fruit, you can bet I'm here for it. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I eat

LSAT Overview: Reading Comprehension

Image
As nerdy as it sounds, I've always enjoyed the reading sections of standardized tests. It definitely comes from my love for reading, but, hey, at least it made the reading comprehension section of the LSAT easier for me. However, there are still plenty of aspects that make this section challenging--from the content of the passages to the time crunch. I've included some tips below to help you with your LSAT studying. Related: LSAT Overview: Logic Games Pay Attention While it may seem as if there's not enough time to gather more information than needed when you read each passage, there are still ways to ensure you're understanding the passage as a whole. You should be looking for the main point, the arguments, different viewpoints mentioned in the passage (both those of the author and those of whoever is quoted in the section), and the tone of the passage. The most useful thing for me was to use a highlighter and my pencil to mark all this information down. H

Law School Confidential Review

Image
Although I know they're not going to tell me what my law school experience will be like, I bought some law school prep books and decided to look through them to get an overview of law school, especially the first year. After reading 1L of a Ride by Andrew McClurg, I took on Law School Confidential by Robert H. Miller. I really liked how this book was laid out; while 1L of a Ride was solely about the first year of law school (obviously), Law School Confidential focuses on the entire journey from the application process to graduation. I loved the in-depth look of 1L of a Ride , but I also loved the large overview Law School Confidential gives. Related: 1L of a Ride Book Review This book brought so much stuff to my attention that I haven't ever thought of before, like judicial clerkships after graduation and how to evaluate myself on my academic performance after exams. It also helped that the writing in this book is very conversational and feels like you're hear

Looking Toward May

Image
Happy May, everyone! Thank goodness it's finally spring--I'm so sick of the cold weather up here in Chicago and I'm looking forward to being able to spend more time outside. Now that I've decided where I'll be going to law school, I'm counting down the days until August 19 and I'm trying to figure out all the logistics of moving to a different state.
