My Favorite LSAT Apps

Image
I took my LSAT studying very seriously, which led me to get into the habit of drilling myself in my free time. One way I did this was using apps on my phone while I was waiting in line or relaxing at home. This way, I could keep my skills sharp, but didn't have to sit and stare at my books all day every day. My mom is actually the person who suggested that I do this, because I honestly never thought about using my phone to study--usually I'd put it on "Do Not Disturb" mode and only listen to music on it. I thought I'd share some of my favorite apps that helped me out a lot. Make sure to check out my absolute favorite LSAT app at the end of this blog-- and let me know if you have used any of these before! Logic Puzzles One of my biggest struggles early on were logic games, just like a lot of people. I felt lost and stuck whenever I tried to do a game, and I would just give up because I'd get so frustrated. While I do love doing puzzles, something

Law Blogs You Need to Follow Now

Image
When I first decided I was going to apply to law school, I did what any common millennial would do: search for information on the Internet. This led me, naturally, to the holy grail that is Pinterest, where I began putting all the information I was collecting into a board. One of the biggest and most important sources of information I found were blogs from current and former law students. Hearing about experiences directly from someone who has dealt with what you're worried about is such a validating and relaxing experience. As I made my way through the online world of law blogs, I began to accumulate a list of bloggers whose posts I would rely on more than others. I thought that it'd be a great idea to create a list of my favorite law school bloggers to help out anybody who is in my boat! Brazen and Brunette Brazen and Brunette is the first law school blog I came across on Pinterest, and, if I'm being totally honest, she's one of the main reasons I chose to

How to Have a Self Care Day

Image
Long time, no see! Sorry for not posting too much this past week, I dedicated most of my time to prepping for the LSAT. Now that it's over, though, I'm back! Mental health is so important. I want to establish that right off the bat, because that's one of the biggest reasons I've been working on practicing self care more often. As I sit and write this, it's the day before the November 2018 LSAT, which I am scheduled to take in less than 12 hours. Since I first planned out how I was going to study for the LSAT, I knew the Friday before the test would be a day totally to myself. I wasn't going to study, I wasn't going to worry or be anxious--all I would do is relax and take care of myself. I allowed myself to sleep in because I didn't have to go to work and figured I would be mentally exhausted after staring at the test booklet for hours on end. This was definitely a great idea, and I also went to bed earlier than usual to make sure I wouldn&#

Let's Talk Confidence

Image
For anyone who knows me personally, this upcoming admission may not be a shocker: I am not always the most confident in myself and my abilities. I used to attribute this to my anxiety; maybe I just talked myself down and overthought my actions because my brain was wired that way. Maybe I just had to be stuck like that for my whole life. While I don't want to diminish what anxiety can do to your mindset (trust me, I know), lately I have been working towards feeling better about myself because I've made a conscious choice to work toward confidence. I'm going to be honest: it hasn't been easy. There are still times when I talk down to myself or berate myself for something I can't control. But I'm more aware of when I do this, and I can catch myself and make sure to say something positive to counter any negative thoughts. A lot of my lack of confidence stems from how I feel about my body. Something that has always bothered me is that people still compliment

A Look at My Applications

Image
When I first started researching how to apply to law school, I didn't realize how much work truly went into it. I remembered from my undergraduate applications that it can take some time to write out personal statements and get my high school resume together, but law school apps are something else. Currently, I'm spending most of my time focusing on studying for the LSAT, but that will be over soon with the November LSAT coming up in a little over a week (let's just avoid that topic for right now). My resume is finished, as I always keep an updated version on my laptop, and I'm working on the second draft of my personal statement. I started out my application process by looking through a list of United States' law schools and jotting down the ones that interested me to research into later. After narrowing my list down several times, I ended up with five schools: the University of Iowa, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Miami, University of Denver,

My Favorite Studying Playlists

Image
Chances are that if you spot me, I have my headphones in and I'm jamming out to one of my gazillion playlists. With that, it's a given that whenever I study, I'm listening to music to stay focused. I tend to switch between playlists depending on how productive I'm trying to be or how productive I'm feeling, if I have a busy day, etc. I thought I'd share some of my favorite playlists to study along to to help you get through that long to do list. Chill Lofi Study Beats This is one of the playlists I put on when I'm really trying to get through a busy day. This is mainly instrumental, but there are some songs that have lyrics or speaking during them, but nothing too distracting. My problem with studying to music with a singer is that if I'm trying to stay very focused, I find that it diverts my attention a little too much. While this is fine when I have more time to study or don't have a gazillion things to do, I prefer to study to instru

Looking Toward November

Image
Happy November! Since this is the first post of its kind, I thought I'd start off with an explanation. At the beginning of each new month, I am planning on writing about some of my favorite new things, what's happening during that month, and some of my goals that I'm hoping to accomplish. I'll also go over if I accomplished my goals in the following monthly blog. November Goals Let's kick things off! November is a pretty big month for me. It's been on my mind for months. I am finally taking the LSAT on November 17. I'm trying to stay calm about this, as I don't want to psych myself out. One good thing, though, is that that night some girls from my high school organized a bar crawl for all recent grads who can legally drink, so I'll be able to relax and spend time catching up with my favorite people after taking the test. Hopefully it'll balance my day out. In addition to the LSAT, the rest of November will be filled with work and law
